FLYING SAUCERS?

We've another emerging sport for you to have a go at - or just watch, if your dog doesn't like to fetch! GB Disc Busters will be putting on some incredibly exciting games - and all-comers are welcome to have a go. There will be a supply of special discs to use (in all sizes); the discs come from the States and won't crack or splinter, and some cloth ones will also be available for dogs that prefer them. If your dog already has a favourite disc, it can still be used, provided it passes the judge's safety inspection. Every competitor gets a few minutes' briefing on how and where to throw the disc and the area will be enclosed - but your dog should have a good recall, as they obviously need to be off-lead for this event. For the Toss'N'Fetch the pitch is marked into zones. Points are awarded depending on which zone the dog catches the disc in. You get extra points for an 'air catch', but the disc must land or be caught further than 10m away to count. Everyone has 90 seconds to achieve as many throws as possible. There's also a distance event with no time limit. You have three throws and your best one counts. An air catch (of any distance) will beat a ground catch of any distance, which will beat a retrieve of any distance. You book in on the day, but start practising now!

TELLINGTON TTOUCH

There will be a chance to experience this wonderful method with the remarkable Sarah Fisher and her team. Tellington TTouch, developed by internationally recognised animal expert Linda Tellington-Jones, is based on cooperation and respect; it offers a positive approach to training, can improve performance and health, and presents solutions to common behavioural and physical problems. It also helps to establish a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication. For a donation to the animal charities, visitors and their dogs will be able to participate in a mini TTouch session.

DOCK DOGS MAKING A SPLASH!!!!

No, we’re not talking about tail docking here – this is the sort of dock you jump off! If your dog loves water then this is a definite “have a go” event that shouldn’t be miss. It’s one of the hottest new sports to come out of the States and we are all really pleased that they have selected the Cold Wet Nose Show to demonstrate at. I know my dog Tess will be one of the first to dive in! So why not put you name down early as we expect, if we get a warm day, there’ll be a few people queuing!
